Finding Peace When We Feel Worried

Hello, kids!

I’m happy you joined us today! Just think–we aren’t in the same room right now, so we can’t see everybody when we look around the room, but we can imagine that there are a whole bunch of us who are all gathering together to read, look, listen, and play the very same things at the very same time.

If you feel like it, imagine all the other kids who are joining in today, and wave hi to them.
Hi, friends!

It might feel a little different, but we can still feel connected to each other even when we’re apart. You are important to me, and you are important to Jesus. Welcome!

Today we’re going to explore what we can do when we feel worried or afraid.

Listen:

On this episode of Read Out Loud, Author Susan Verde reads her book to help us understand what mindfulness means and find new ways to feel calm.

Look:

Are you ready to use your eyes and ears? In this video, we can learn how our thoughts are like bubbles. They come and they go…POP!

Do:

It’s time to use your whole body! This next video has four games to help you think, feel, and focus. Would you like to play along?

It’s healthy to notice your thoughts, and learn to breathe slowly to help yourself feel calm. If you are noticing lots of worried thoughts, or if you are feeling afraid, it may be helpful to draw or write what you are feeling. Take some time to draw a picture of what you are feeling worried about, and then imagine yourself putting those worries right into God’s hands. God’s hands are big enough to hold all the worries in the world.

If you have a printer, you can ask a grownup to help you print this: Put It In God’s Hands Printable. Otherwise, any kind of paper will work!

Wonder:

  • I wonder what you worry about?

  • I wonder what it would feel like to put all of your worries into God’s big hands?

  • I wonder what you hear, smell, see, and feel right now in this moment?

Pray:

When we feel worried or scared, God is always listening. We can talk out loud or even silently and know that God hears us.

Bible Verse

In the Bible, it says this:

"Don’t worry about anything. Instead, invite God to be with you in everything. Tell God what you need, and be thankful for what you have. Then you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than we can understand. This peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest."

Philippians 4: 6-7

Thank you for joining us today! Bye, friends!
